Several planned highway lanes on the North and West sides have been identified as potential candidates for the first toll roads in Bexar County.

Suburbia rapidly becoming origin and destination

Census data released Wednesday confirm what hundreds of thousands of commuters in North Texas stalled daily already know: People are not just headed to Dallas and Fort Worth anymore for work. The seven-county region’s booming outlying areas, especially Collin County, attracted an ever-expanding share of the region’s commuters in the 1990s, with more than 50 percent of suburban commuters heading to suburbs outside Dallas and Tarrant counties for jobs, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

North Texas is about to go wild with toll roads

The future of transportation in North Texas may include more toll roads - even on highways where motorists don’t pay to drive now. Two state lawmakers filed bills that would create a regional transportation authority to oversee the construction of roads and rail lines. The six-county North Texas Regional Mobility Authority could supersede the powers of tollway and transit agencies already in place.
