Collin developer takes a regional view; Craig Ranch benefits will ripple through county

McKINNEY – David Craig has been developing land around the globe from his E. Davis Street office near downtown McKinney for almost 23 years. Mr. Craig’s plan for Craig Ranch is to create a pedestrian-friendly, “new urbanism” development – sort of a second downtown for McKinney – that could add up to $2 billion to the city’s tax base.

Dallas editorial promotes passenger rail at TxDOT

Let’s be unflinchingly honest: In Texas, “transportation” is a euphemism for highways. There’s nothing wrong with highways. Texas needs them, and the Transportation Department is good at building them. But the highways are congested. At some point, TxDOT must seriously consider moving people from city to city by rail – as France, Japan and a growing number of other countries do well and efficiently.

Oklahoma progress to increase gas tax by five cents includes transit

If approved by voters, the gasoline tax would go from 17 to 22 cents per gallon. The diesel tax, now 14 cents, would go up 8 cents per gallon to the same level of the gasoline tax. Sixty percent of tax increase would go for roads and bridges and 40 percent would go for public transit, passenger rail programs, county and municipal projects and navigable waterways.

Williamson County leaders begin to look at mobility alternatives

A new public transportation plan recommends starting daily bus routes both within and between cities to serve the county’s growing population. Williamson County is one of the largest counties in the state that does not have a fixed-route bus system.
