Midland-Odessa gets ready for service

October 1 is the start date for the Midland-Odessa Urban Transit District. In furtherance of that start date, the Odessa City Council authorized a $173,000 operating budget and $2.2-million capital budget from state and federal grants for the rest of this fiscal year, ending Sept. 30. The transit district will begin operating five city bus routes in Odessa and six in Midland on that Oct. 1 start.

Popularity of Houston Rail Increases

With various groups wanting in on Houston Metro’s proposed light rail system, up for a vote in November, its chances of passage are increasing. Citizens in various parts of the greater Houston area are voicing their desire to be included. Metro’s proposed rail service expansion has grown to 64 miles, including an 8-mile commuter line to Missouri City at the edge of Metro’s service area.

Valero to supply Houston with ULSD

Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) has been awarded a one-year contract, with a one-year renewal option, to supply 13 million gallons of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) to the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) for its bus operations.
