The American Public Transportation Association reports the following:
“[T]he House approved the FY 2004 Omnibus Appropriations bill that includes $7.3 billion for federal transit programs. While we’re pleased to see the bill move forward, the Senate leadership announced today that it will not consider the measure until Congress returns after January 20. In the meantime, funding for federal transit programs will be provided under a continuing resolution that funds federal programs through January 31, 2004; we understand that FTA intends to soon apportion funds available under the continuing resolution.”

Tarrant County elected and business leaders are banding together to tackle transportation needs and lobby for state and national transportation funds.
The Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition, modeled after similar alliances in Dallas and Harris counties, is in its infancy. But organizers expect it to become a strong advocate for transportation improvements and funding in Tarrant County.

Fiscal Year 2004 Appropriations: Congressional leaders have incorporated the Transportation/Treasury Appropriations bill into the omnibus appropriations bill that funds federal departments and agencies which are operating without approved FY 2004 appropriations acts. Congress is scheduled to consider the omnibus bill during the week of December 8 and is expected to provide $7.266 billion for public transportation, after a .59 percent *across the board cut* in most federal programs. This cut reduced transit funding by $43 million from the original conference agreement. (Source: “APTA”:http://www.apta.com/)

If North Texas is going to have a regional transportation system, area mayors and other elected officials will need to develop a plan by the 2005 legislative session, area mayors said. The mayors of Fort Worth, Denton and Dallas met for a moderated discussion on how regional efforts benefit each city, and they focused mostly on transportation. A proposal is needed before the Legislature convenes again.

On December 18th the Kerrville Intermodal Facility will celebrate its Grand Opening. Construction on the facility began in November 2002 and was completed June 2003. The facility is located at 206 Schreiener.
Alamo Regional Transit, a rural transit district, provides public transportation to the county, the city, and the surrounding area. Kerrville Bus Company provides transportation for intercity transit throughout Texas with interconnectivity with major bus companies providing bus transportation to any point in the United States.
