Education: High school diploma preferred but not required.

Must be 21 years of age.

Work Experience:
Minimum three (3) years general work experience to include driving experience and customer service experience.

Minimum of two (2) years continuous employment in a direct public contact position is preferred.

Basic Function:

  • Under general supervision, the Bus Operator drives METRO Buses to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules, charters and special services.
  •  Bus Operators are expected to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Bus Operators are also expected to perform pre-trip inspections of assigned bus.
  • This will require the ability to bend, kneel, squat, and twist safely. Pre-trip inspections also require the ability to balance oneself, climb, and strongly grip objects.
  • Bus Operators must be able to lift at least 25 pounds and push objects such as doors, windows, emergency hatches, wheelchair lifts.
  • Approximately 99% of the work schedule will be spent sitting down. Length of sitting period is based on the schedule.
  • Work assignments are based on seniority; therefore work hours will be varied and may include a period of unpaid time between morning and afternoon assignments.
  • Days off are also based on seniority.
  • Split days off are a strong likelihood.
  • OTHER FACTORS: Bus Operators may encounter irregular working hours, heavy traffic and patron’s diverse backgrounds. Under such conditions, they are still expected to operate Authority vehicles safely and on time.

Rail Operations Analyst

Position Description 

Responsible for providing analytical support and statistical reporting to Rail Maintenance division. Research and analyze statistical data, data base reports, budget, etc. which provide complex qualitative and quantitative information and reports regarding rail maintenance efficiencies and operational statistics. In addition responsibilities will require research information with interfacing data base systems; SEMA Maintenance System and the PRISM Materials Management.

• Designs, develops and utilizes statistical and financial models for the analysis of departmental activities including service quality performance statistics, departmental resource utilization indexes, and cause and effect studies.
• Conducts analyses to monitor and improve efficiencies and effectiveness of Rail Vehicle Maintenance and MOW sections.
• Creates and utilizes decision support computer modeling tools to process large amounts of data for the use in analysis.
• Makes clear, supported and concise recommendations to management in both formal and informal environments.
• Conducts analyses to monitor and improve efficiencies and effectiveness of Rail Vehicle Maintenance and MOW sections
• Maintains and updates status to reflect production and inactivity due to maintenance support problems.
• Prepares quarterly financial forecasts and identifies open issues.
• Assures production accounting (man-hours).

Chief Rail Operations Controller

Position Description  

Responsible for the real time oversight and coordination of train movement, maintenance and Central Control activities on the METRORail system. This is a hands-on working manager position which will require the performing of daily administrative functions as well as assisting with the duties of Rail Operations Controllers. Has total authority over all train/vehicle movement, contractor and maintenance activities that occur along the METRO Rail system.

Design Build Construction Manager

LVR Technician

The Metropolitan Transit Authority, Harris County TX is looking for qualified individuals to fill the position of LVR Technician. 

Position Description

Responsible for preventative maintenance repair, running maintenance repair and heavy maintenance repair on light rail vehicles. Duties include troubleshooting, testing and repairing of complex light rail systems, sub-systems and circuits to line replaceable unit level up to including diagnosing to board replacement level. Assists the LRV Maintenance Supervisors and Project Management Team on failure analysis and fault isolation to resolve complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical issues with the light rail vehicles systems, sub-systems with the use of portable test equipment, and laptop diagnostic and test Software application. Works closely with the METRO Project Management Team during testing, commissioning and acceptance of New Metro Light Rail Vehicles.
