The Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority is seeking a Server Support Specialist IV - Technical

Position, supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to agency’s server environment.  Recommends and schedules repairs.  Participates in requirements definition, specification, design, development and integration of server technology.  Installs and configures servers and systems software.  Provides configuration management, inventory management, fault management and trouble management support on data center systems.  Develops and writes procedures required to maintain all systems.  Helps business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency.

Position requires:

1. Expert knowledge of concepts, best practices, and procedures for supporting Intel based Blade System servers.
2. Expert understanding of Microsoft Windows, VMWare, Linux and/or SUN Unix based operating systems.
3. Extensive experience toward managing, maintaining and implementing enterprise messaging systems, Storage Area Networks and operating systems, including applying software upgrades, security patches, and planned maintenance for these systems.
4. Expert knowledge of Storage Area Network fabric architecture and sound technology architecture principles to deliver high quality, high performing and cost effective solutions.
5. Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or comparable combination or relative experience.  Desire two or more certifications MCSE, VMWare, HP, ASE, SUN UNIX
6. Minimum of five (5) or more years of experience in relevant computing environment.  Extensive knowledge of enterprise messaging system based on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003/2007 with day-to-day operation experience with these systems.  Extensive knowledge of VMWare virtualization systems.  Microsoft clustering technologies and scripting with Microsoft coding desirable.
7. Ability to apply technical understanding to a broad range of technical solutions and manage vendors and technical staff in the Data Center server environment.
8. Excellent analytical skills in understanding complex relationships between various OS and specialty applications (Exchange, HP SANTv03@ridemetro.org
