CityLink Transit, Abilene’s public transit system, has been awarded a Texas Department of Human Services Local Innovation Grant for $250,000 to continue special transportation services.

This is the third time CityLink has been awarded such a grant. Past grants have helped low-income families have access to job training, education and employment.

Since early 2000, CityLink has been providing services under the Local Innovation Grant program. Eligible individuals were offered evening van service, bus tickets or daytime service to get to and from work, school or training. More than 103,600 trips have been taken by nearly 1,200 individuals since the program began.

The grant award will enable CityLink to continue services for existing clients and to serve new clients who need services.
To be eligible to receive innovation services, participants must:

# Be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.

# Have one or more of their legal dependents (18 years old or younger) residing with them.

# Have a household income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

Applicants must stop by CityLink’s office at 1189 S. 2nd St. during normal business hours to sign up for services and provide documentation to verify eligibility.
