CityLink Transit of Abilene recently participated in an evacuation due to heavy rains and flooding from Tropical Storm Dean.
Preparations began on Saturday night, and when Elm Creek reached its spill point early Sunday morning, CityLink employees began evacuating many flooded neighborhoods nearby on Abilene’s northwest side.
Twelve operators, five staff, and one mechanic, participated in the rescue effort, with the help of five 1992 Chance Coach RT-52 buses and three 2002 Glaval Universal paratransit vans.
It is estimated that about 100 people were transported to two local shelters. Later on Sunday, those same evacuees were safely returned to their residences.
