Texas Transit Association Announces Roadeo Winners
El Paso, Texas, May 15, 2004 - The Texas Transit Roadeo was held in conjunction with the 2004 Texas Transit Conference. The competition consisted of a 40ft and Paratransit Roadeo. The winners were announced at a ceremony that evening. This competition recognizes the men and women who keep Texas bus systems safe and the wheels turning. The awards are given to the highest score of all the drivers who were entered in this year’s competition.
The 40ft bus competion first place winner was Dallas Area Rapid Transit driver Raul Abarca, Sun Metro’s Charles Gimenez took second and Capital Metro’s Porfirio took home the third.
The Paratranist bus competition was won by City and Rural Rides driver Felix Vitandi, CityLink Abilene Walter Goodman took second and City and Rural Rides driver Bill Shields took home the third.
The roadeo is designed to encourage excellence and professionalism in bus transit operations. The competitors from Texas finest bus transit systems participated. The operators’ competition measured professional skills including drving ability as measured on an obstacle course, knowledge of safety regulations and bus equipment.
The Texas Transit Association would like to say that all drivers are winners.
