Texas Transit Association Awards

El Paso, Texas, May 16, 2004 - The Texas Transit Association recognizes the excellence in the public transportation industry. Awards were presented to the Outstanding Metro, Urban and Rural Transit Systems, the Outstanding Pubic Transportation Manager and Public Transportation Coordinator at the awards ceramony at the 2004 Texas Transit Conferecne in El Paso, Texas.

Along with these awards the Texas Department of Transportation presented their annual Friend of Texas Award.

The awards recognize innovation, as well as outstanding achievement by transit systems and individuals who have taken a leadership role in improving public transportation in the State of Texas.

The following are the award winners and the categories in which they recieved their award:

Outstanding General Manager was presented to Fred Gilliam of Capital Metro.
Outstanding Metro Transit System was presented to VIA Metro in San Antonio.
Outstanding Urban Transit System was presented to Brownsville Urban System.
Outstanding Rural Transit System was presented to City and Rural Rides
Outstanding Public Transportation Coordiantor was presented to Debra Rector of Abilene.

The Texas Department of Transportation presented the Friend of Texas Award to Ven Hammonds, General Manager of Texoma Area Paratransit System.
